The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.
Auditions: What You Need to Know
Who: Actors in grades 7-12 (25-26 school year).
When: Auditions will be held on Sunday, November 16th from 3-5pm OR Monday, November 17th from 6-8pm.
Where: CCT’s space inside The Brookland Lakeview Empowerment Center in West Columbia. 1218 Batchelor St, West Columbia, SC 29169 (entrance faces Batchelor St. & The Palmetto Grand Lodge)
***Please arrive prior to the start time listed above, as we will audition as a group. The audition process should take approximately two hours. Parents will drop their actors off after check-in and come back at the end time listed above.
Steps to take:
- Fill out the Online Audition Form and Conflict Calendar (Google Form)
- Review the Production Information Sheet (pdf file) **By signing the audition form, you agree to adhere to all listed requirements on this sheet.
- Auditionees will be asked to perform one song at auditions from the following selections:
- “Aldolpho” (pdf file)
- “As We Stumble Along” (pdf file)
- “Cold Feets” (pdf file)
- “Show Off Reprise” (pdf file)
- Actors will also learn a short dance routine and may be asked to read lines from the script at each audition session
- You only need to attend one audition session unless you are asked to return for a callback audition. *Please wear comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes to auditions (no Crocs, please!)
After the Audition:
- The cast list will be sent out via email by Friday, December 5th @5pm. Here you will accept or decline your role.
- There is a one time participation fee of $125 ($250 max per family) due by the first rehearsal. There are a limited number of scholarships available.
- Participation fees and retail items will be available for purchase on our retail page on December 5th.
- Rehearsals begin Monday, December 8th with our read-thru from 6-8pm. Rehearsals will generally be held Monday through Friday evenings, Saturday times vary, and Sunday afternoons. The rehearsal schedule will be released after the first rehearsal.
- CCT will be closed December 21st-January 4th. We will resume rehearsals on January 5th.
- Rehearsal conflicts will not be accepted beginning Tuesday, Jan. 20th.
- Performances will be held January 30-February 1 at CA Johnson High School.

Pricing:
There is no cost to audition, but participating young performers are required to pay a $125 participation ($250 max per family) fee by the first rehearsal in order to join us for The Drowsy Chaperone. There are a limited number of scholarships available.
