weldon auditorium studentsAs part of our mission of exposing young minds to the arts, Columbia Children’s Theatre has developed the following programs that we can bring to your school. Each of the programs below is designed to meet core curriculum standards, while igniting your students’ imagination through the wonder and magic of live theatre! A Thousand Cranes Residency

This week-long residency culminates in a live performance with your students. Based on the story of Sadako, the young girl who dies of radiation sickness after Hiroshima, this mystical re-telling of how folding a thousand paper cranes will make a sick person well is a joy for performers and audiences alike. Developed especially for middle grades this residency focuses on the fundamentals of creative expression then translates them in to live on-stage performances. This residency fulfills 6th and 7th grade Social Studies standards dealing with Japanese history and World War II.

Appalachian Wonder Tales Interactive Performance

These mythical mountain tales are brought to life as only Columbia Children’s Theatre can! Featuring “Jack and the Farmer’s Daughter,” and “Jack and the Northwest Wind” these tales from the mountains of North Carolina delight audiences of all ages. Filled with jokes, jigs and audience participation, CCT’s actors take on many of the roles but we save just a few for your students!

A Christmas Carol Performance

Charles Dickens’ classic is brought to life in that inimitable Columbia Children’s Theatre style. Complete with Scrooge, Marley, and one of your students as Tiny Tim this holiday classic is filled with song, dance and the warmth of the holiday season. Ideal for middle grades and fulfills 6th grade ELA standards.
